Google and McAfe announced that spyware had been used to attack political opposition to a mining project in Vietnam, which is sponsored by both the Vietnamese gov’t and China. The proposed mining would destroy the environment and displace an ethnic minority in the region. The question Is is the environmental policy any different than the US’s and how much Internet sabotage do we take...

The White House announced yesterday that it would open up parts of the American coast for oil drilling as a compromise to help bring about environmental and climate legislation and reduce our dependence on foriegn oil.
Seems a little backwards to protect the environment by cutting into it, and why not reduce dependence by researching other sources of fuel?

A recent court ruling states that DNA cannot be patented. Call me crazy, but this seems like a no brainer to me. Of course, I have basically no knowledge of the biotechnical field; however, I guess we’ll try to get a copyright for anything to get a profit. What’s next, copyrighting the genes that give people good hair?

Here’s a NY Times article discussing Amnesty International’s report on state executions world-wide. Not surprisingly, the majority of US executions occurred in Texas, but what is absolutely dumbfounding is the fact that China is reponsible for 3/4s of the world’s 2,300+ execution.
Of course, you could argue that they also have the world’s largest population; however, the...
